What is the purpose of Gold Bars?

Gold Bars has been created for carp anglers to wear ‘off the bank’. Clothing with premium quality and style, representing the sport we love without screaming ‘I’m a carp angler’. Hopefully you’ll recognize others when they’re wearing Gold Bars, and it starts a conversation.

What’s the current state of carp clothing?

Carp clothing is either technical gear for on the bank, or cheap and corny merch, with slogans like ‘carpe diem’ or ‘carp whisperer’. Most guys wouldn’t wear those socially. It’s time for the carp community to have a lifestyle brand that represents the sport, but done in a quality and style-conscious way.

Why the name Gold Bars?

Gold Bars is a nickname for carp, based on their color and shape, but it’s also a way to highlight the value of the species.  While carp are the premium fish to target in the UK and Europe, in the USA they are considered a nuisance fish.  As carp anglers we hold each other to standards of fish care and respect for the species. The name Gold Bars reflects the value we put on the fish.

Who are the founders?

Gold Bars is born from two friends with a love of angling, starting in the UK in the 1980’s at the River Mole and the River Thames and eventually targeting carp at day tickets, like Willow Park, Gold Valley and Old Bury Hill.  We’re now split between Brighton in the UK and Los Angeles in the USA, staying connected through our love of angling. 

Do you guys know what you’re doing?

Yes! When it comes to the apparel business, we do have a lot of practical experience. One of us has been a graphic design professional for 20+ years and the other has been in the sportswear business for the same amount of time in both the UK and the USA.
